Hi, my name is Byron Como, the author of “The Defenders of Taffy 3.” I see some guests to the USS Gambier Bay website asking questions that would be better answered simply by reading my book. As well as the book, listed on Amazon, there are two short docuentaries on Amazon Prime, as well as a biograhical video of Ernest Evans posted to Archive.org. Lastly, I’ve uploaded all of the artwork from the book, and there is a considerable number, to the Fine Art America website. This includes a complete set of individual squadron and ship timelines which would help answer any questions a reader may have.

Hi, I’m a fan of naval history. Currently one topic of my research is that which one causes the fatal damage of USS Gambier Bay at from 0816 to 0820.

One option believe that this hole is made by one nearmiss fired from IJN Yamato’s first salvo at 0822 which the time recorded by her action report, but the time can’t 100% match what recorded by USN.
Captain Vieweg reported at 0820 his forward engine room received hit.
I want to check if you have more reliable information on it?

Maybe I will be able to see this.
I’m the oldest son of christian howald, machinist mate onboard of the Gambier bay. He was wounded, but survived the sinking, spent days in the water with the sharks and did make it home.
I’m lucky to be here….peace

I’m the niece of Kenneth Earl Sullivan AM1c, I never knew he was aboard the USS Gambier Bay until I started researching my family genealogy.
His date of death is incorrect, he crossed the bar 13 Nov 1989, I would love to see a photo of him at the time he served aboard the Gambier Bay, if anyone happens to have one.
